John Carteret Granville, 1st Earl 1690-1763, English statesman, better known as Lord Carteret.
He served as ambassador to Sweden (1719-20) and as a secretary of state (1721-24), but his favor with George I posed a threat to Robert Walpole, who finally forced his resignation and sent (1724) him to Ireland as lord lieutenant.
He was dismissed in 1744 and, although he served (1751-63) as lord president of the council, he never regained much influence.

John Shackleford was born in Essex County, VA, circa 1670, and was the son of Roger born 23 April 1629, and Mary Palmer Shackleford from Essex, England.
"John Shackleford at the garrison at the Shackleford Plantation to be allowed to plant Corne on said Plantation, plant, tend and gather Corne during time they keep a garrison there." This shows troops were stationed at the Garrison and the soil was tillable on the Banks during 1712.
John was appointed to see "Every ship drawing eight feet of water anchoring at the Banks and Shackleford Banks to charge three shillings six pence per foot".

The Ancestor of the bus was the trolley which entered the Carteret Scene in the 1900's, the trolley appearing first as a horsedrawn vehicle, in turn supplanted the stage coach.
Carteret in 1906 was community with front flower gardens surrounded by a countryside with charming scenery and reached by roads on which horse-drawn "roadwagons" and family carriages was the mode of traffic.

There was a James and a Thomas Piner in Carteret County in 1779 and a John Piner in 1884, all from the Newport River area.
Born around 1829 or 1830 in Carteret Co. He inlisted at age 33 in Craven Co on Jan 20, 1862 and was mortally wounded in Fredricksburg,VA on Dec 13, 1862.

John Tucker (the Captain title derives from mariner activities after he arrived in the Colonies) appears to have been born between 1610 and 1615, probably in London.
John Tucker was born in 1653 and Joseph Tucker was born in 1655.
