John Cator - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John Cator ( 1728- 1806) was a wealthy timber merchant and landowner responsible for the layout of much of the areas around Blackheath, London and Beckenham in north-west Kent during the late 18th century.
His estates were inherited by his nephew John Barwell Cator, but became neglected, and it fell to another Cator, Albemarle Cator, to expand the developments of Beckenham and Blackheath to take advantage of the growth of the railway network during the early 19th century.
The Palladian mansion (designed by architect John James) was demolished in 1787 and Cator began to break up the estate into small packages of land to be individually developed.

 Cator Estate
It was only on the descent of Cator’s estate to his nephew, John Barwell Cator that the residential population of the Park, still known today as the Cator Estate, started to grow.
Cator’s intention was to use the land for a hopefully profitable investment: the price he paid was so small that it was recouped by the sale of the materials of Wricklemarsh, which Cator set about dismantling in the late 1780s.
Cator decided that Wricklemarsh could be profitable as agricultural letting, but the land to the north and west of the holding could be more usefully engaged, To that end he granted development leases to architect Michael Searles and builder William Dyer.

 The Higdon Family Association, Inc.
John and Ann had issued at Epperstone of at least one son, another John Higden, who was living in 1612 at Laxton, County York, and probably left issue there by his wife Margaret, who was a daughter of John Cator of Lancashire.
John Higden, of Epperstone, married Bridgett, daughter of Edward Odingsells, of Nottinghamshire, and was the father by her of a son named John, who married Ann, daughter of Henry Parkins, of Fishlake.
John Higden, who was resident at Epperstone, in Yorkshire, about the middle of the sixteenth century, may have been descended from the last-mentioned Higdon of Synesby, but this is conjectural.
