John Colepeper, 1st Baron Colepeper - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
On August 25, 1642 he appeared at the bar of the House of Commons to deliver the king's final proposals for peace, and was afterwards present at the Battle of Edgehill, where he took part in Prince Rupert's charge and opposed the retreat of the king's forces from the battlefield.
By the treaty, agreed to between Oliver Cromwell and Mazarin, of August 1654, Colepeper was obliged to leave France, and he appears henceforth to have resided in Flanders.
Colepeper was twice married, (1) to Philippa, daughter of Sir John Snelling, by whom he had one son, who died young, and a daughter, and (2) to Judith, daughter of Sir J. Colepeper of Hollingbourn, Kent, by whom he had seven children.

For the most part, the 1st Duke's surviving estate and business correspondence concerns overall family finance rather than detailed estate management; with total debts of over £340,500 by 1850, on an annual income from all his estates of only £41,500, his finances were obviously a matter of paramount concern.

As the entries then are all considerably later than the text and written in the same hand as the obit (1444) of John Beaufort, Duke of Somerset, whose wife Margaret was heir of the Beauchamps, there can be little doubt that the entries were made (perhaps from an earlier calendar) by or for her.
