John Collura is Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and serves as the Director of the UMass Transportation Center.
Collura is the former Chair of the National ITS America Research and Academia Forum; has served as a referee for the Transportation Research Board and ASCE Journal of Transportation Engineering; and is a member of American Society of Civil Engineers, Institute of Transportation Engineers, and the Intelligent Transportation Society of America.
Collura is a registered professional engineer (P.E.) and has taught courses in transportation engineering, transportation systems analysis, public transportation planning and operations, and intelligent transportation systems and has authored book chapters as well as many articles and technical reports.

Collura said research for the device began almost two decades ago in Minnesota where 3M, the device manufacturer, is based.

Collura, Plotnikov, and White are the principal authors of this Circular.
Collura expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the Forum and thanked the many faculty and staff involved in his nationwide study to examine the actions recently taken by the academic community to address the changing education and training needs of the transportation profession.
Dr. Collura began by indicating that there have been three categories of action taken by universities to respond to the changing needs of the profession: 1) conduct research on educational issues, 2) sponsor conferences and workshops (such as this Forum), and 3) develop new and modified curricula and courses.

 Band Bio
The Ataris released a split cd with the Israel band Useless I.D. called "Let It Burn." The Ataris released their newest cd "End Is Forever" in late 2000 which was their last Kung Fu CD to be released.
On July 30th, after his last show in LA, Marco left the band because of "minor creative and personal differences" and John Collura, the Ataris guitar tech and former member of the band Beefcake became the new guitar player for The Ataris.
In August of 2001 Ataris got signed to Columbia Records after their contract with Kung Fu had expired and which record label The Ataris would go to was undecided for a while.

First, Ataris drummer Chris Knapp and bassis Michael Davenport were cut from the fold, leaving just Roe and guitarist John Collura.
Eventually, Roe and Collura recruited five musicians to fill out the band: a guitarist, a drummer, a bassist, a pianist and a cellist.
Along with Collura, he was able to foster what he described as the band's "natural" evolution, unimpeded; Knapp and Davenport had thwarted previous attempts to progress, he says, and thus, they had to go.
