  John Hermon Crook
John H Crook was the son of Richard Hermon Crook, who had an architect's practice in Bolton, Lancashire and Irene Heald- a well read woman who wrote poetry, studied world religions and became a dedicated pacifist.
John H Crook was actually signed up as an articled clerk (trainee solicitor) in Thomas Heald's firm of solicitors in Wigan at the age of 19 in 1934.
John Crook married Sylvia Napier in May 1943, two years after she was widowed by the death of her first husband, Alan Brian - an Australian pilot - during a bombing raid in Italy.

John T., along with brother-in-law John Crook, was one of the first settlers of Henderson County, Tennessee; and upon its formation in 1821, became its first sheriff.
The Thomas Greer Crook descendants (10th child born 1820 in Bedford County, just before the move to Henderson County) relay his statement that "we are of the Kentucky Crooks", and the descendants of Jeremiah Crook, from South Carolina.

Our Teacher is Dr John Crook, teaching in the Dharma Drum lineages of Linji and Caodong Chan, transmitted through Master Sheng-yen who is based at the Chan Meditation Center in New York, and also in Taiwan.
Most retreats are led by John Crook, but occasionally other teachers, including Master Sheng-yen, have led retreats at Maenllwyd.

John Crook (born 1930) is a British teacher of Chán (Chinese Zen) Buddhism.
Another of Crook's innovations has been a new approach to koan practice, taking some of the lessons from the Western Zen Retreat to find new ways to assist Western minds to practice with traditional gongan (Japanese: koan) and huatou (Japanese: wato).
From the community of practitioners who attended retreats with Crook there grew an organisation called the Western Chan Fellowship, which was founded in 1996 and registered as a UK charity in 1997.

Sidney John Crook was born on 2nd March 1892 into the family of Harry and Mary Anne Crook, at Overa Farm, East Harling, in the county of Norfolk, England.
The family were from a farming background, and it was from this hard lifestyle that Sidney and his brothers Harry and Frederick escaped by emigrating to Canada as young men in the early 1900's, leaving their parents and seven siblings in England.
Private Crook met his fate on Wednesday 7th June 1916, near Ypres in Northern France, while engaged in action in the build-up to the Battle of the Somme, which would follow some three weeks later.

John Christian, local preacher and leader of Douglas, Isle of Man, was born in K. Onchan, in the year 1808.
Captain John Corlett accompanied him to Port-le-Murray, a distance of fifteen miles, and when they arrived the house was too small for the people, so they went to the pier by the new quay and sang a hymn.
John Corjeag, who was for 45 years a local preacher, died in the Lord at Ballalona, Michael, in the Ramsey Circuit, Isle of Man. His remains were interred in the parish burial ground on Monday, September 1884, and was attended by about 50 persons, including the vicar of the parish.
