The parish of St. John’s was born in 1946 when sixteen people from the developing White Rock area petitioned the Diocese of Dallas-Ft. Worth for status as a mission of the Episcopal Church.
John’s Fiftieth Anniversary Celebration in 1996 adopted the theme of Pilgrimage, held in thanksgiving for its pilgrim ancestors, and for the journey of all Christians which begins in the earthly Church and continues in eternal splendor.
John’s completed its images of the journey in 1995, just prior to its fiftieth anniversary, with the addition of the art beyond the altar; but it began with the traditional structure—though non-traditional design—of the building itself.

John McClannahan Crockett, second mayor of Dallas, state representative, and lieutenant governor of Texas, son of Robert McClannahan and Elizabeth (White) Crockett, was born in Lancaster, South Carolina, on December 26, 1816.
Crockett was an incorporator of Dallas Grain, Elevator, and Flouring Company in 1872 and a charter member of the executive committee of the Dallas Pioneers Association in 1875.
He died at their farm near Dallas on August 4, 1887, and he and Catherine are buried in the Old Masonic Cemetery in Dallas.
