John Duncan MacLean (Culloden, Prince Edward Island December 8, 1873-March 28, 1948 Ottawa) was a teacher, physician, politician and Premier of British Columbia, Canada.
MacLean was a practicing doctor in the town of Greenwood when he was elected in the 1916 election to the provincial legislature as a Liberal.
Maclean became premier when Oliver died in 1927 at a time when the Liberal government was in decline.

His brother John, at the head of the Macleans, was in the expedition of Donald Balloch, cousin of the Lord of the Isles, in 1431, when the Islesmen ravaged Lochaber, and were encountered at Inverlochy, near Fort William, by the royal forces under the Earls of Caithness and Mar, whom they defeated.
He and Maclean of Lochbuie were among the barons of the Isles who accompanied Donald Dubh to Ireland, and at the command of the Earl of Lennox, claiming to be regent of Scotland, swore allegiance to the king of England.
The quarrel between the Macleans and the Macdonalds of Isla and Kintyre attracted, in 1589, the serious attention of the king and council, thus the rival chiefs, with Macdonald of Sleat, were summoned to Edinburgh.

John Jessop opened the school August 7, 1876 in the old Colonial School House built in 1853.
MacLean compares the British Columbia situation with Alberta where 80% to 85% of school costs were borne by local school boards compared to 47% in B.C. On taking charge of the department, MacLean dealt with criticism concerning the course of studies in the high schools, which was thought to be impractical.
