When John Dye and his sons moved to Washington County, Ohio the nearest post office was Marietta and the tract of country toward the north was an unbroked wilderness.
John Dye 2 and his half-brother Samuel emigrated from Virginia (near Manassas) and settled near Cow Run, in Washington County, Ohio in 1805, located in what would become Lawerence Township.
Thomas Dye was born in 1776 in New Jersey and died in 1858 in Meigs Co., Ohio, near the present day "hamlet" of Meigsville, Ohio.

John Dye, deceased, who was born near Cold Springs, Campbell county, Kentucky, March 23, 1811, was a worthy representative of one of the old pioneer families of Kentucky, whose ancestors figured prominently in the early history of America.
John Dye, our subject, was reared on the farm near Cold Springs and prior to his marriage, when quite a young man, spent several years working on flat-boats on the Ohio, Mississippi, Black and White rivers in Arkansas and elsewhere and, in fact, made his start that way.
John Dye was the founder and organizer of The Daylight Building and Savings Association in 1908, of Newport, of which he was the active head and president until his death, May 19, 1910.

From the "Dye Family" per Charles J. Beckman - Rachel Dye Westfall (-1824) probably came to Ohio with her father and is said to have married Daniel LeFevre, possibly in Montgomery County before Miami County was organized.
She may have been living with her brother John M. Dye in Elizabeth Township at the time of her death, for he was executor of her estate and documents describe her as "late of Elizabeth Township." Her will indicates that Rachel died childless, making her unique among Andrew's children.

Isaac witnessed a will in 1728 and died in 1754 leaving young children, so was evidently younger than John, while Lawrence was son-in-law of John.
