John was already recognised as destined for public life, and was put in front of numerous television cameras over the couple of days of the conference.
John strongly supported the objectives of the scheme, and privately assured me that if he was agriculture minister after the election, he would continue with it.

Mr Falloon, who was also MP for Pahiatua, had been ill for several weeks after undergoing surgery in Wellington Hospital for a brain tumour.
John Howard Falloon was born in Masterton in February, 1942 and was educated at Bideford School, Lindisfarne College and Massey University from where he graduated with a diploma in sheep farm management.
Mr Falloon often championed the lot of women saying that the country's economy should be geared in such a way that young mothers should not be forced to go out to work.

I want to pass on the ACT party’s regards to John Luxton and his family for the loss of their father, who was a true gentleman, and also to the Hon John Falloon’s family, and for the contribution those two men made to this Parliament and to our country.
The Hon John Falloon was an intelligent advocate of the rural communities of New Zealand—there is no question about that—but he was also a compassionate human being.
But I did know the Hon John Falloon personally, and he was very supportive of me when I—together with some other MPs, perhaps—had a small mishap during the citizenship debate of a year or two ago.

Mr Falloon, a veteran of 19 years in Parliament representing Pahiatua electorate and a former agriculture and forestry minister, wants the Government to commission senior Family Court judge Andrew Beecroft to conduct a commission of inquiry into “the whole spectrum of family life in New Zealand”.
Mr Falloon said in the two Wairarapa cases the role of Child, Youth and Family had been investigated “but nobody else has”.“ We need to look at the cause and effects and what preventative steps can be taken.
Mr Falloon said central government is the only body that can take the initiative and get a major inquiry under way.“ If I was still in Cabinet that’s what I would be pressing for,” he said.

John Falloon was born in Masterton on 17 February 1942 and educated at Lindisfarne College and Massey University in Palmerston North, where he graduated with a diploma in Farm Management.
Since 1961 he has operated the family farm, a hill country property of 720 hectares carrying sheep and cattle, with 60 hectares in plantations for protection and production forestry.
Since his election as MP for Pahiatua in a 1977 by-election, Mr Falloon has been chairman of the Public Expenditure Committee (1980/81), Minister of Statistics, Minister in Charge of the Inland Revenue Department and Associate Minister of Finance (1981-84), and also Postmaster-General.

Wairarapa Youth Choices Trust chairman John Falloon says there is a severe lack of initiatives in the region to help young people in trouble, and teenagers are falling through the cracks and on to the streets.
The programme has been successful in helping students, and was cited by the Police Commissioner as a possible cause of the fall in youth offending in Wairarapa.
But Mr Falloon says there are still youngsters that the programme is not reaching.
