Jesuit Father John N. Felton, a long-time professor, dean and originator of the honors program at Xavier University, died Oct. 10 at the Colombiere Center in Clarkston, Mich., at the age of 86.
Father Felton directed the honor’s program from 1958 to 1967, recognizing the possibility of establishing a men’s honors residence, assembling a group of talented teachers and spending part of each fall traveling to Jesuit high schools to recruit students for the program.
Although Father Felton was appointed dean of the college of arts and sciences in 1967, he insisted on continuing to teach.
