John Forrest is a national park in Western Australia (Australia), 24 km east of Perth.
The section within the park is now known as the John Forrest Heritage Trail.
The alignment through the Swan View Tunnel and through the park was commonly known as the 'National Park' railway line.

The national park lies within the Colorado Plateau geographic province of North America and straddles the southeastern edge of the Paunsagunt Plateau west of the Paunsagunt Fault (Paunsagunt is Paiute for "home of the beaver").
The last of the land in the proposed park's borders was sold to the federal government four years later and on February 25, 1928 the renamed Bryce Canyon National Park was established.
The area around Bryce Canyon became a United States national monument in 1924 and was designated as a national park in 1928.

Within the park, their are a number of small walking trails that lead to such features as the Hovea Falls, National Park Falls, Rocky Pool, Swan View Tunnel (worth a visit!).
The start of the trail is in the Yanchep National Park and the track finishes in the Melaleuca Park Nature Reserves, traversing the many natural wonders of the Swan Coastal Plain.
The park is 28 kms from the centre of Perth.

Given it's a 'city' national park it's highly regulated and controlled.
Shaun, I would suspect that the JF Nat Park is not accessible for off-road vehicles, otherwise it would have appeared by now in Western 4wd day trips out of Perth booklet.
