John Adams sacrificed his family life for his political one, spending much of his time separated from his wife, Abigail Adams, and their children.
John attended a dame school, a local school taught by a female teacher that was designed to teach the rudimentary skills of reading and writing, followed by a Latin school, a preparatory school for those who planned to attend college.
In 1781, together with Franklin, John Jay, and Henry Laurens, Adams was part of the commission of American diplomats that negotiated the Treaty of Paris, the pact that brought an end to the War of Independence.

Alexander P. Stewart's Corps, consisting of 8,000 men, had been ordered to remain on the south side of Rutherford Creek until he was brought forward at 5:30 P.M. Coming across Hood at 6:15, Hood directed his corps to move north of Spring Hill and place themselves across the Columbia Pike.
Of the many rumors or mysteries that have long surrounded the events of Spring Hill, such as; Cheatham drank the evening away in the company of the local ladies, or that Hood was either drunk or in a state of drug induced euphoria, all have been debunked by modern historians with the exception of one.
Franklin, located approximately 15 miles south of Nashville, is situated on the south side of a horseshoe shaped bend of the Harpeth River.

Alexander and Eliza loved and respected each other and delighted in their family, which eventually grew to eight children.

John Jay's long and eventful life, from 1745 to 1829, encompassed the movement for American independence and the creation of a new nation — both processes in which he played a full part.
Shortly after John's birth, his family moved from Manhattan to Rye in order to provide a more salubrious environment for the raising of John's elder siblings, two of whom had been struck by blindness following the smallpox epidemic of 1739 and two others of whom suffered from mental handicaps.
Though not selected to attend the Philadelphia Convention, he was a leading proponent of the principles that the new Constitution embodied and played a critical role in its ratification.

John B. Hood, had failed to destroy part of the Union force in Tennessee, allowing the Army of the Ohio, commanded by Maj. Gen.
The reason was that he had insufficient pontoon bridges available to cross the river; the bridges had been left behind in his advance to Spring Hill due to lack of wagons to transport them.
Alexander P. Stewart's and Cheatham's, had arrived from Spring Hill, giving the Confederates a slight numerical advantage, since those of Schofield's troops already across the river could not be brought to help in a sudden defense.
