John Frost, the eldest son of John and Amy (Tenant) Frost, was the grandfather of John Edward Frost.
Frost was identified with the Santa Fe Railway Company, first as district agent of the land department, from 1872 to 1879, then as traveling agent of that department until 1880, after which, until 1898, he was successively general agent and chief clerk of the land department and general land commissioner for that great railway system.
Frost was appointed a member of the Kansas State Relief Committee by the governor of Kansas, and served throughout that year on that committee, which collected and dispensed several train loads of provisions and many thousands of dollars to the sufferers of that deplorable disaster.

John Robert Frost was born on 1st April 1862 in Crigglestone, near Wakefield, the illegitimate son of Mary Ann Frost, a cloth weaver.
There is also another child in the household, referred to as William Henry Frost Wood in one of the censuses but we are not sure whether he was the illegitimate son of Mary Ann or one of her sisters, as we cannot find the his birth registration in the birth indexes in London.
John and his first wife had moved to Yorkshire and he must have met Mary Ann Frost after he was widowed.
