	John Gomery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Justice John Howard Gomery (born August 9, 1932 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada) is a Canadian jurist.
		Gomery was appointed on February 19, 2004 as Commissioner of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities (informally, the Gomery Commission) to investigate the Sponsorship scandal.
		In other words, Gomery's mandate is only to determinate whatever there were problems with the federal sponsorship program in Quebec between 1995 - 2003 ; he is explictly forbidden when he issues his report to name any individuals or organizations that may have been responsible for the alleged fraud that occurred during the sponsorship program.

		The Gomery Commission, formally the Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities, is a federal Canadian commission headed by the retired Justice John Gomery for the purpose of investigating the sponsorship scandal, which involves allegations of corruption within the Canadian government.
		In December ChrÃ©tien's lawyers had moved to expel Justice Gomery due to comments he had made to a National Post reporter that the lawyers argued showed that Gomery was biased against ChrÃ©tien.
		These included Gomery commenting that golf balls marked with ChrÃ©tien's name, which had been paid for by the sponsorship program, were "small town cheap." Gomery rejected the calls to recuse himself setting up a confrontation between him and ChrÃ©tien.
