The borough comprises, independently of several others within its liberties, the parishes of Coleraine and Killowen (described under its own head), the former comprising the town on the eastern side, and the latter the suburb of that name on the western side, of the Bann.
In the Roman Catholic divisions this place is partly in the diocese of Connor, and partly in that of Derry, and forms part of the union or district of Killowen or Coleraine ; the chapel is a spacious and handsome edifice, situated at Killowen.
Coleraine has given title to many noblemen; the last was that of baron to the family of Hanger.

John Scott, the celebrated chief justice of the King's Bench in Ireland, who was created Baron Earlsfort in 1784, and was advanced to the Viscounty of Clonmel in 1789, and to the earldom in 1793.
The priory of St. John, or Kil-Eoin, from which the suburb on the western side of the Bann, now Killowen; took its name, has altogether disappeared; a part of that establishment formed the old parish church, on the site of which another was subsequently erected, the remains of which have been converted into a schoolroom.
John Foster, the last speaker of the Irish House of Commons, who, in 1821, was created Lord Oriel: it is distinguished by the beauty of its surrounding grounds, and the richness of its extensive plantations.

It was not deemed advisable to intrust the command to Baron de Kalb, and on the 13th of June Congress appointed General Gates to the position.
Baron de Kalb was placed in command of the right wing, composed of regular troops, and General Caswell of the left wing, made up of militia.

A good example of the type is John Gray’s A TREATISE OF GUNNERY published in 1731 which is a perfect example of refined mathematics and quite incomprehensible to this writer (who makes no claim to any mathematical ability anyway).
During the course of his experiments on the subject of the resistance of the air at various velocities he noted that the smooth bored muskets he was using showed wild deviations in accuracy.
That unusual man, Colonel George Hanger, Baron Coleraine, who despite his unfortunate later life, had been a capable military man, said in his book TO ALL SPORTSMEN AND PARTICULARLY TO FARMERS AND GAMEKEEPERS (1814) that in the American War, during the 1770’s, a prone rifleman shot the horse of Colonel Tarleton’s bugler at 400 yards.

Printed for John Bowles and Son at the Black Horse Cornhill and Robert Sayer at the Buck in Fleet Street.
John Rich of the Lincoln's-Inn-Fields was eventually persuaded to take on the piece, and the first performance, on January 29, began, it is said, with some concern on the part of the audience, for the departure from the conventions of the day was considerable.

 THE FAMILY OF THOMAS WHITSON AND AGNES HOGG
Some contend that it is a patronymic being derived from the personal name of the father of the original bearer and signifying simply "son of WHITE" while others favour a baptismal origin with the name being ascribed to one who was born on Whitsunday.
References after 1369 include the witnessing by John QUHYTSON of a charter i Inuerpetery in 1454, and the leasing of lands of Le Peblis (Peebles) in 1484 and again in 1498 by Thomas QUHITSONE.
John RIND, tobacconist of Prestonpans was cautioner on 18.3.1757.
