 HERNDON, Va. (AP) -- John Harkes, reeling from his exclusion from the U.S. World Cup team, said Wednesday he feels he belongs on the team and that he hopes to prove it to coach Steve Sampson before the roster is finalized June 2.
 Harkes, a regular member of the national team for 11 years and team captain until he was cut last month, flew to the West Coast to meet with Sampson on Monday.
Before joining MLS, Harkes had played in the English League in the winter and with the U.S. national team in the summer.
