John Hegley (born 1 October 1953) is a popular British performance poet, whose poems have appeared both in print and on the radio.
Hegley has written a number of collections of poetry, ranging from the surreal through the humorous to the personal and emotional.
Hegley's stage act includes elements of poetry, music (he plays the ukulele and is often accompanied by a Double bassist), comedy and Luton Town Football Club.

John Hegley is an old favourite of mine which,as a Radio 4 junkie unfortunately meant that I’d heard most of the poems that he performed before, in various late-night radio slots, and in excerpts from his Fringe Festival gigs over the summer.
Hegley on the other hand writes funny, touching poems, which fill several books, and can be read and enjoyed in their own right, like the best of Spike Milligan’s ‘silly verse’.
Hegley’s show is pretty short, - it ran to less than 2 hours including an interval, so there’s plenty of time for drinks afterwards.
