John Henry Faulk (August 21, 1913–April 9, 1990) from Austin, Texas was a storyteller and former radio broadcaster.
Faulk's radio career ended in 1957, a victim of the Cold War and the fllisting of the 1950s.
In 1955 Faulk earned the ill will of the fllisting organization when he and other members wrested control of their union, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists from officers under the backing of AWARE.

John Henry's later career included small parts in movies, regular appearances on TV's "Hee Haw" and stage shows including the one-man "Pear Orchard, Texas," which he wrote and began performing in 1986.
John Henry Faulk died in Austin on April 9, 1990 at the age of 76.

If the name "John Henry Faulk" means anything to you, it probably means that old geezer on "Hee Haw" who was so dadgum downhome folksy that next time he saddled up old Paint you wanted the pair of them to ride through the dusty sage brush and into some tightly strung piano wire.
John Henry Faulk was a folklorist before the word entered the vocabulary, a crusader for civil rights when some fellow Texans still evaluated tree branches by how much Black human weight they could bear on the end of a rope, and a radio humorist whose text was decidedly Texan, but whose context was universal.
The son of a liberal lawyer, Faulk was born in Austin, Texas, on 21 August 1913.

John Henry Faulk, humorist and author, fourth of five children of Henry and Martha (Miner) Faulk, was born in Austin, Texas, on August 21, 1913.
Faulk began a new program on suburban station WOV in 1947 and the next year moved to another New Jersey station, WPAT, where he established himself as a raconteur while hosting "Hi-Neighbor," "Keep 'em Smiling," and "North New Jersey Datebook." WCBS Radio debuted the "John Henry Faulk Show" on December 17, 1951.
After he and Hally were divorced, Faulk married Lynne Smith, whom he met at a New York City rally for presidential candidate Henry Wallace in the spring of 1948.

I seem to recall responding more warmly when Faulk himself performed a solo show of his character vignettes in 1986 at the now-defunct Chocolate Bayou Theater.
The weak framing device has Faulk entertaining at a party, alternately chatting about his life and performing vignettes of his downhome Texas characters.
As for those not previously initiated in Faulk's fan club, they are hardly likely to be turned on by this experience.

On this day in 1951, WCBS debuted the "John Henry Faulk Show," which featured music, political humor, and listener participation.
