Sir Victor Alexander John Hope, 2nd Marquess of Linlithgow, KT, GCIE, OBE, DL Born at his ancestral home, Hopetoun House, near South Queensferry, West Lothian, Linlithgow was educated at Eton and succeeded his father, the first governor-general of Australia, as 2nd Marquess in 1908.
In 1922 Linlithgow, a Conservative, is appointed civil lord of the Admiralty, a post he holds until 1924.
Linlithgow married Doreen Milner in 1911, and they have twin sons, Charles, Earl of Hopetoun, and Lord John Hope (b.1912), and three daughters.

Hope was born at South Queensferry in Linlithgowshire the eldest son of the 6th Earl of Hopetoun.
He was educated at Eton College and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where he passed in 1879 but did not join the Army on graduation.
