John Howe (loyalist) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John Howe (October 14, 1754 - December 27, 1835) was a loyalist printer during the American Revolution, a printer and Postmaster in Halifax, the father of the famous Joseph Howe, a spy prior to the War of 1812, and eventually a Magistrate of the Colony of Nova Scotia.
John Howe was named in the Banishment Act of the State of Massachusetts, 1778, possibly as a result of his work as printer for the British forces in Newport, Rhode Island.
John Howe made a second trip to the United States from November 10, 1808 to January 5, 1809, but this visit was under the more official guise of "bearer of Dispatches to the British Minister", that minister being David Montagu, Baron Erskine of Restormel Castle, the British Envoy at Washington from 1806 to 1810.

 John Howe - LoveToKnow 1911
JOHN HOWE (1630-1706), English Puritan divine, was born on the 17th of May 1630 at Loughborough, Leicestershire, where his father was vicar.
In 1687 Howe availed himself of the declaration for liberty of conscience to return to England, and in the following year he headed the deputation of nonconformist ministers who went to congratulate William on his accession to the English throne.
Though excelled by Baxter as a pulpit orator, and by Owen in exegetical ingenuity and in almost every department of theological learning, Howe compares favourably with either as a sagacious and profound thinker, while he was much more successful in combining religious earnestness and fervour of conviction with large-hearted tolerance and cultured breadth of view.

Historical Biographies, Nova Scotia: Joseph Howe (1804-73).
After this, Howe was to lead the province into the great political reforms that swept Britain during the first fifty years of the 19th century: the aristocracy was out of power and the people claimed it for themselves through their elected representatives.
Howe in his more mature years, as one of the chief political leaders of Nova Scotia, involved himself in the great political fights that surrounded the founding of Canada as a nation, which was to be a confederation of the former English colonies.
Howe in these confederation debates was to be on the wrong side: he was against confederation: he lost and in the process was, politically speaking, pretty much shuffled aside.
