John Huarte (born April 6, 1944 in Anaheim, California) played American football for the University of Notre Dame after graduating from Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana.
During his sophomore and junior years at Notre Dame, John played for only a few minutes per game.
As a senior, however, John became the starting quarterback and led the Fighting Irish to only one loss during the season of 1964, in which he also won the Heisman Trophy.

As the senior quarterback at Notre Dame in 1964, Huarte, owner and founder of Arizona Tile Co. on the Chandler/Tempe border near Interstate 10, led the Fighting Irish to a 9-1 record and a share of the national title.
Huarte was selected in the second round of the 1965 draft by the New York Jets of the upstart American Football League.
Huarte was the backup to Len Dawson in 1970 when the Chiefs beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-7 in Super Bowl IV.
