 John Irwin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John T. Irwin is the Decker Professor in the Humanities and Professor in The Writing Seminars and the English department at Johns Hopkins University.
Professor Irwin received his M.A. and Ph.D. in English from Rice University in 1970 and began teaching as an assistant professor in the English department at Johns Hopkins University in 1970, where he continued until 1974 when he left to become the editor of The Georgia Review at the University of Georgia.
In 1996, Irwin stepped down as chairman of the Writing Seminars after nineteen years but still continues as a professor in the Writing Seminars and in English, teaching full time and writing.

John was the son of a John Irwin, but how he could be related to your family we do not know.
Obviously John Irwin himself was dead by 1901 when Frances was a widow, but looking at "John Irwin" entries in death registers (first report), the earliest in the years covered (from 1873) was for a John Irwin of Cronkill, who died in 1877, aged 59.
Another 1 acre of land leased by John Irwin was bought the same year and passed into the names jointly of Samuel and Robert Irwin in 1922 (by which time we believe their mother to have died).

John Irwin was the author of the shorter sections on bronze images, and textiles.
John based his work upon meticulous study and analysis of the trade records of the European East Indian Companies, who were trading into India in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and for whom Indian textiles were a major commodity.
John also gave to the archive his very large collection of Research Files, containing photocopies and offprints upon classified subjects, and some of his correspondence with other scholars, which he had begun to collect and assemble while still at the Victoria and Albert Museum, and continued to enrich during his travels after retirement.

At the time and after John Irwin came to Australia there was an exodus of Irwin's to Canada and the USA, while none of these have been directly linked to John's family, it is likely they are related as most came from Co. Tyrone.
There is still an Irwin family living in Ballygawley and it is likely that they are descended from a brother of John who remained behind (the family trade was flsmithing and many forenames are the same).

John Joseph Irwin grew up in Toronto, Canada on 56 Drysdale Crescent, Willowdale between 1963 and 1977, apart from a year out in Oxford, England where he lived on Clover Close in Cumner Hill, a mile west of the city centre.
John and Susanne were delighted to have their first child, Raphael, born in the fall of 1994.
John and Susanne were overjoyed to have their second child, Gabriel, born shortly before they moved to the US.

With these lines, Irwin began a 17-year journey with a poem that would end up not as a villanelle but as a 2,076-line narrative poem set in iambic pentameter, and with the phrase from Dixon's work appearing 20 pages into the work.
Throughout the poem, Irwin places together things that are very funny with things very sad because, says Irwin, because how else would one recognize it as life--and also because he wanted to keep the reader always a little off balance.
Irwin is now at work on a new poem with the same characters, this one set in divorce court (with Sir, of course, as the judge) and addressing love and marriage.
