John Jackson Miller on Iron Man: SBC Q&A
John Jackson Miller is a name that until recently was most widely recognized by readers of Krause Publications (publisher of Comics Buyer’s Guide and myriad other comics related publications), where he is editorial director of the comics and games division.
JJM: Another member of the President's staff, that we'll meet in #74, is someone who should be familiar to both Tony and his readers.
JJM: Since my Crimson Dynamo is explicitly about a weapon of mass destruction in a foreign land -- and the drama behind what finally happens to it -- you could say I've already gotten that story out of my system.

When it was announced that John Jackson Miller would be taking over the writing reins on Iron Man even before readers had a chance to sample his debut work on Crimson Dynamo, many questioned whether or not Miller has proved himself worthy of control over one of Marvel's better known characters.

Strange-Haven.com News -- Polishing New Iron: John Jackson Miller Named New Iron Man Writer
JJM: Yeah – and the thing is, this one is actually feasible, because in the context of the Marvel Universe, that is a position that has been held by civilians – civilians who aren’t powerful people in the defense business.
JJM: In Iron Man, the suit is an established part of the character – in the sense that its capabilities are more or less known.
JJM: I’m certainly aware of the film, but if there’s a specific locked-and-upright-position the character is supposed to be returned to when I’m done, I haven’t seen the memo.

COMICON.com: MILLER, STARK, & IRON MAN in POLITICS
MILLER: I understand where Jorge's coming from, but, for me, Iron Man seems not to be a second persona for Tony Stark as much as it is a change of clothes.
MILLER: "The Best Defense" is actually a line used by Tony's nemesis in the storyline, Sonny Burch, in #75, when he speaks of Tony's past again, his past business dealings, his pacifism, his personal life, his personality all serving as "the best defense" AGAINST Tony's nomination being confirmed.
MILLER: The West Wing is a political procedural like CSI is a police procedural, and I enjoy it most on that level, whatever the actual issues they're talking about are.

Miller's story focuses on Gennady, a Russian teen who works a crappy job in a warehouse that leads him to a most unusual and exciting discovery.
Though Miller's use of pop culture references as attempts at humor fall flat during the sequence, the notion of Gennady treating the Dynamo's actions as essentially not real has chilling and interesting implications.
Miller's dialogue, especially from Gennady, feels a bit cutesy and overwritten to me when he's speaking, and it feels like a clumsy burst of exposition in the IM chat early on.

 Crimson Dynamo #1
John Jackson Miller is a novice writer, although he's not a newcomer to comics - he's one of those journalist types who got invitations to pitch for the first wave of Epic books.
Miller has a longstanding interest in Russia, and he's decided to play with that by reviving the Soviet equivalent of Iron Man. However, rather than bring back the original character (who's dead anyway), this series takes the ever popular approach of having a completely new character stumble upon a spare set of armour.
It's transplanted to a different society - one where the local university is jealously protective of its exciting new CD burner - but the thrust remains the same.

Printer Friendly: Iron Man #76 Review - Silver Bullet Comics
I mean John Jackson Miller has set up a fairly interesting problem from Tony, as he's essentially run up against a crisis that he can't simply blast out of existence, and this new approach was rather clever.
The question/answer session worked far better than I had expected it to as John Jackson Miller keeps the questions quite valid, and Tony's answers are nicely in keeping with the character's established personality.
The attacks that are made during this questioning session are also quite solid, as they are logically sound, and it's clear that John Jackson Miller has done his homework in order to unearth the stumbling blocks that these people would address.

Comixfan Forums - CRIMSON DYNAMO #2 REVIEW
Miller is obviously striving for a “fun” book, and there are touches of humor that really work.
The next issue should close out the first story arc (assuming Miller was held to "EPIC standard” pacing), as well as my “three-issue try.” Whether or not I read on to issue four depends entirely on Miller’s ability to tell me a good story.
Miller has an interesting protagonist, a decent artist, and the publishing power of Marvel comics behind him; I genuinely hope he can make it all work.
