FRASER, the chief river of British Columbia, Canada, rising in two branches among the Rocky Mountains near 52 45 N., j18 30 W. Length 740 m.
The Fraser is a typical mountain stream, rapid and impetuous through all its length, and like most of its tributaries is in many parts not navigable even by canoes.
With its tributaries the Fraser drains the whole province from 54 to 49 N., except the extreme south-eastern corner, which is within the basin of the Columbia and its tributary the Kootenay.

His parents, John Fraser and Isabella Forbes, as well as his uncle James Fraser with his wife and sons, had emigrated in 1831, as part of the group from Scotland who settled in the village of Beebe Plain on the Derby Line border.

 A History of the Perth Area
Master General at Quebec, and is dated from Perth on the Tay; the town and river having received their new names from the Scottish settlers.
Many of these early settlers lived in tents, or bark huts during their first summer, until the trees could be felled and hewed into logs and built into cabins against the cold of winter.
Most of the supplies, except those sent in by the Government for rations etc., had to be carried in by the settlers on their backs from the nearest settlements -- which were 20 miles away to the south, (towards) the St. Lawrence.
