It is sometimes said that John Juanda is one of the nicest people in the world of professional poker.
Even with an interest in gambling at a young age, John was well aware of the benefits of a good education, the importance of family, and the advantage of treating others with the same respect as one expects in return.

John Juanda's early life lessons from a difficult Indonesian childhood became the foundation for one of the winningest careers in professional poker.
Juanda's ability to play himself into the final table with such consistency can be credited to his remarkable knack for conserving chips and energy through long stretches of promising hands that go nowhere.
At the age of 19 Juanda came to the U.S. to study at the University of Oklahoma, then moved to the west coast for an MBA at Seattle University.

The Two Johns Take the Field   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
Hayden threw her hand away, and Juanda, although certainly not lacking for hands, was putting on a clinic, alternating big re-raises with small blind and ante-stealing raises, and accumulating chips faster than he could stack them.
With Juanda now leading about $68,000-$22,000, both players grew a bit cautious, and it seemed that each was confident he could outplay the other after the flop, because we saw a lot of limping in from the button and looking at cheap flops.
John Juanda walked off with the most money, but everyone at this final table was able to walk off knowing he or she had given it his or her best, and that’s what will win the world’s eventual triumph over the evils of terrorism, too.

The funniest Juanda moment that I've seen is when he got reraised on the flop during the final hand by Jerry Drohoball (probably spelled the last name wrong) in one of the 2004 no-limit events.
Juanda really isn't the way he's portrayed on TV, He talks quite a bit at the table, and he's a rather aggresive in his play, in Berry Greenstein's analysis of players he gives him an aggresiveness of 7 out of 10, which is different than the Juanda we've seen on the few clips of TV..
