Kundla led professional basketball's first dynasty, the Minneapolis Lakers, who dominated the NBA during its formative years with a deadly combination of size and precision.
In George Mikan, Kundla boasted the league's first dominant big man - so dominant, in fact, he forced the NBA to widen the lane, outlaw goaltending and implement the 24-second clock to prevent teams from stalling and keeping the ball out of his hands.
Making Kundla's teams especially compelling was the presence of a bitter and capable rival - the Rochester Royals, who followed the Lakers from the National Basketball League to the Basketball Association of America, and finally to the fledgling NBA in 1949-50.
