JOHN LIGONIER (Jean Louis) [[Ligonier, Earl]] (1680-1770), British Field Marshal, came of a Huguenot family of Castres in the south of France, members of which emigrated to England at the close of the 17th century.
At Fontenoy Ligonier commanded the British foot, and acted throughout the battle as adviser to the duke of Cumberland.
In 1757 he was made, in rapid succession, commanderin-chief, colonel of the 1st Foot Guards (now Grenadier Guards), and a peer of Ireland under the title of Viscount Ligonier of Enniskillen, a title changed in 1762 for that of Clonmell.

William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham (15 November 1708–11 May 1778) was a British Whig statesman who achieved his greatest fame as Secretary of State during the Seven Years' War (aka French and Indian War) and who was later Prime Minister of Great Britain.
In 1742, Walpole was at last forced to succumb to the long-continued attacks of opposition, and was succeeded as Prime Minister by the Earl of Wilmington, though the real power in the new government was divided between Carteret and the Pelham brothers (Henry and Thomas, Duke of Newcastle).

My uncle 2nd Lt Earl O. Brooke was held in Stalag Luft I from December 1943 until liberated by the Russians in May 1945.
We are searching for Veterans that served with Ssgt John W Jackson of the 90th Division 357th regiment during WWII.
I know his last unit "1st Division" is on his Ike jacket, with a combat infantry badge, 2 1/2 years combat hashmarks, european campaign ribbon with 4 stars.
