  John L. Routt Governor Colorado
John Long Routt, the last territorial and first state governor of Colorado, was born in Eddyville, Kentucky on April 25, 1826.
Routt organized the 94th Illinois Volunteer Regiment, was elected Captain, and served heroically at the battle of Vicksburg and Prairie Grove.
John Routt died in Denver on August 13, 1907, after claiming the distinction of being the champion office holder in the United States, performing services for the nation and state of Colorado for more than fifty consecutive years.

JOHN LONG ROUTT -- I know nothing of his birth or death although I believe that there is a doctoral dissertation on him at the University of Colorado, graduate school.
Routt was of Scots-Irish stock, resident as a merchant and politician in Springfield, Illinois, when U. Grant was living there after resigning, or, being cashiered as you prefer, from the Army prior to the Civil War.
Routt is cited in despatches for gallant conduct at the siege of Vicksburg, or Jackson damned if ever I can remember which, and when Grant became President, Routt eventually wound up with a 3rd or 4th, Assistant Postmaster Generalship.

Yesterday Representative John Kefalas from HD 52 introduced the Voter Choice Act, which establishes a group to study advanced voting methods for Colorado, including IRV.
This was unexpected, as we were under the impression that we wouldn't be heard until the "long bill" was before the committee.
Romnaoff told John he would "see what he could do." Given how low a priority this is for the Democratic majority in Denver, don't hold your breath, but be aware that the IRV study is on life support, but is not yet clinically dead...
