John Lyng - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John Lyng (August 22, 1905 - January 18, 1978) was a Norwegian politician from the Conservative Party.
He was Prime Minister of Norway from August 28 to September 25, 1963 in a coalition government of the Conservative Party, the Center Party, the Christian Democratic Party, and the Liberal Party.
Although the John Lyng government failed to govern for more than a month it did prove that the non-socialist parties were capable of making a coalition, and after the parliamentary elections in 1965 the non-socialists returned to power with Per Borten as prime minister, and John Lyng as foreign minister.

Lyng, a longtime friend of Reagan's, has been through the revolving job door at USDA several times and is intimately acquainted with agency functions, needs and the political byways of departmental bureaucracy.

Lyng let the USDA itself grab the headlines, while he stayed in the "cage," which is the wood and glass enclosure surrounding the office of the Secretary.
Lyng was Block's understudy for five years at USDA, and had served a prior stint as an assistant Secretary during the first term of Richard Nixon.
