  Sean MacDermott - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sean MacDermott (February 28, 1883 – May 12, 1916) was one of the leaders of the Easter Rising of 1916 in Ireland.
Shortly thereafter MacDermott was stricken with polio and forced to walk with a cane.
In November, 1913 MacDermott was one of the original members of the Irish Volunteers, and continued to work effortlessly to bring that organization under IRB control.

Following the surrender, he nearly escaped execution by blending in with the large body of prisoners, but was eventually recognized and summarily executed by firing squad on May 12.

It was the twenty third day of the trial of John Gilligan (48), who has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Sunday Independent crime reporter Veronica Guerin, (37) at Naas Road, Clondalkin, Dublin on June 26th, 1996.
The prosecution has claimed that John Gilligan was “in control and command’’ of a criminal gang that imported and distributed large amounts of cannabis and that he organised the murder of Ms Guerin.

The Court of Appeal by a majority (McCollum LJ and Sir John MacDermott, Kerr J dissenting) dismissed the Commission's appeal ([2001] NI 271).
Sir John MacDermott agreed with the reasoning of McCollum L.J. He found it significant that the Commission had not been given the powers of the Equal Opportunities Commission which the House had held gave it the right to intervene (Equal Opportunities Commission v Secretary of State for Employment [1995] 1 AC 1).
I also agree with Sir John MacDermott that one should not begin with the assumption that because "the Commission should have such a power it must have it and the statutory provisions must be read accordingly" (p.299).

The band's talent was evident not only in their ability to write the bagpipe and drum music on their own from the pre-recorded track, but in the comments from the McCartney organization: ".… They [Heather Belle] are one of the best-prepared pipe bands Paul has ever worked with...." The groups was requested to perform Flower of Scotland on stage as John sang to a predominantly Scottish crowd at Winnipeg's annual Red River Exhibition.
Although the band has received occasional grants from the City of Winnipeg and provincial governments, the group raises most of their own money to pay for replacement of worm uniforms, instruments, hall rentals for practicing, and traveling expenses.
