John Money - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Money was a professor of pediatrics and medical psychology at Johns Hopkins University from 1951 until his death.
According to Money, the genitalia and erotic sexual roles were now, by his definition, to be included under the more general term "gender role;" including all the non-genital and non-erotic activities that are defined by the conventions of society to apply to males or to females.
John Money was critical in the debate on pedophilia.

 John Law
John Law was a "reckless, and unbalanced, but most fascinating genius" as Alfred Marshall (1923: p.41) called him, with "the pleasant character mixture of swindler and prophet" as Karl Marx (1894: p.441) added.
John Law (1705) elaborated upon Davanzati's distinction between "value in exchange" and "value in use", which led him to introduce his famous "water-diamond" paradox: namely, that water, which has great use-value, has no exchange-value while diamonds, which have great exchange-value have no use-value.
Consequently, the amount of money in existence is determined not by the imports of gold or trade balances (as the Mercantilists argued), but rather on the supply of credit in the economy.

Money is one of very few researchers who have done the kind of detective work necessary to track down the origin of a paraphilia.

Money is seen by many as a bit of an eccentric, in part because of his general iconoclasm, perhaps in part because he never seems to tire of talking about sex.

Boston.com / News / Politics / Presidential candidates / john kerry / Money belt tightens on Kerry
In exchange for accepting $75 million in federal money for the general election, he had to halt his private fund-raising at midnight -- barely an hour after he completed his speech formally accepting the Democratic presidential nomination and at the end of a day when his campaign collected $5.2 million in Internet donations.
The effect will be felt in ways big and small, from halting his television advertising in August to reserve money to being judicious about where and when to fly his charter plane and considering bargain alternatives to the the high-end hotels his campaign has favored.
Kerry had been planning to take federal money for the primary, as all Democratic presidential candidates have since the system was put in place in the 1970s.

DIRELAND: JOHN MONEY, A GIANT OF SEX AND GENDER RESEARCH, DIES AT 84
Money was also a celebrated atheist: a Rolling Stone profile of him noted: "A Rolling Stone article about him stated: "Having lost his faith in his early 20s, Money increasingly reacted against what he saw as the repressive religious strictures of his upbringing and, in particular, the anti-masturbatory, anti-sexual fervor that went with them.
An enormous assemblage of Dr. Money's papers, journals, drafts, correspondence, transcripts of the many court hearings on transsexualism in which Money testified as an expert, recordings of his lectures, a large collection of scientific, pornographic, and erotic magazines and journals, and more is all available at the John Money Collection at the Kinsey Institute.
I did not agree with every single one of Money's theories, and, yes, he got a little dotty in his later years and came up with some bizarre notions, but his huge contribution to creating a larger cultural, public, legal, and medical space for sexual difference in the '50s, '60s, and 70s is indisputable.
