Morton may be best known for the catch-22 situation known as "Morton's Fork[?]." Appointed Chancellor of England in 1487, Morton said, "If the subject is seen to live frugally, tell him because he is clearly a money saver of great ability he can afford to give generously to the King.
Morton had been present at some of those events and knew that Richard had not done what Morton claimed, but Morton's purpose in relating these stories was two-fold: to entertain his readers and to vilify the memory of the king who had been overthrown by his own master.
Morton wrote in his History that at the lords' council meeting in the Tower of London on 13 June 1483, Richard suddenly called his men at arms into the room and had them arrest Hastings for treason and take him outside and chop his head off on a log they found handy.

John Morton was born in 1616 to George and Julian Morton (the daughter of Alexander Carpenter), who arrived in Plymouth Colony aboard the Anne in 1623.
John Morton seemed to have kept in close relations with his brothers Nathaniel and Ephraim, because we often see the three mentioned together in the records.
John Morton appears to have been one of the early proponents of primary and secondary education, as he proposes in 1670 "to teach the children and youth of the towne to reade and write and Cast accounts on Reasonable considerations".

John Morton Eshleman (June 14, 1876-February 28, 1916) was an American lawyer and California politician who was that state's twenty-sixth lieutenant governor from 1915 to 1916.
