John Motson, OBE (born July 10, 1945, Salford, Lancashire), known as Motty, is a British football commentator.
Motson was again given the privilege to commentate for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, however not appearing so frequently this time around.
John Motson is famed for his sheepskin coat, which, on satirical quiz show They Think It's All Over, he revealed that he bought off a man in Hornchurch along with 7 identical coats, hoping that they would span his career.

John Motson, the son of a Methodist minister who first stimulated his interest in football, has been a front line commentator with BBC Television for over 25 years.
A short freelance spell with BBC Radio Sheffield was followed by a move to network radio in 1968, where on Radio 2 (then BBC Radio’s main sports station) he became known as a presenter of sports programmes as well as a commentator on football, tennis and boxing.
John was once described by one television writer as a "national institution" to which he modestly replies "some people think I should be sent to one…"
