Nunn is also involved with chess problems, composing several examples and solving as part of the British team on several occasions.

A more popular opening named after Nunn is the Nunn (or c6) variation of the Centre-Counter opening which proceeds thusly: 1.e4 d5 2.
I found only one game with this so-called "Nunn gambit" in the Chessbase Megabase 2004, and that didn't involve Nunn (it was a game in the 1993 Slovakian under-16 championship).

About three o’clock Thanksgiving afternoon, John Nunn was shot five times and almost instantly killed by his son-in-law, David Shirk, as the result of a quarrel.
Nunn, wife of the deceased, testified that there had been trouble for some time between her husband and Shirk.
The testimony of the family as given at the preliminary was to the effect that Nunn came home after the rest had all eaten dinner, and told Shirk he wanted to speak to him after dinner about something he had heard some men say uptown.

Every chapter is well done; but I personally feel that the endgame chapter is a little incongruous, being essentially a survey of frequently occurring endings.
After Nunn finishes, Black has two ways of getting an advantage versus a line with which White is supposed to be able to "win!" This exercise is vintage Nunn: devastating and path-breaking at the same time.
There are other sections in it with problems similar to those Nunn points out, and Soltis is too strong a player to have actually analyzed or even looked at much of the material he presents.

Although many of the tactical and pattern-training exercises he presents are aimed at players of, say, 1600-2200 strength, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if grandmasters couldn't read this book and not only enjoy it immensely, but 'improve their chess' as well.
Like Nunn, Tisdall concludes that there are a number of serious flaws in the extreme version of Kotov's technique, and includes some lengthy examples of real-world chess to illustrate those flaws.
