BallParkWatch - John O'Donnell Stadium / Quad City River Bandits
John O'Donnell Stadium is one of the oldest ballparks in minor-league baseball, but it combines a load of charm with the type of historical design you don't see much anymore.
Rhythm City is located directly upstream of John O'Donnell Stadium and is within walking distance.
While the flood might be a once-in-a-lifetime event, it did lead city and team officials to question whether the stadium is a long-term proposition or whether a new stadium should be built elsewhere in the city.

 BallParkWatch - Aug. 27 - Sept. 3, 2003
More on the last game played at the current John O'Donnell Stadium configuration, as the Quad City River Bandits (Class A; Midwest League) prepare to play in a renovated ballpark in 2004.
However, most new Eastern League ballparks were built with state grants, while the Manchester stadium is being financed by the city, and because the stadium is part of a larger riverside development plan that includes retail and a hotel, it may not be comparable to other league leases.
Cracker Jack Stadium is a gorgeous ballpark, but its relatively remote location at the southwest corner of Disney World might have dissuaded more casual fans from attending games.

 Views -- from our visitors
John O' Donnell Field - Quad City River Bandits, IA - For a river view, you can't beat John O'Donnell (after all, this was the stadium that was submerged in water a few years back).
Of course, Jacobs Field (Cleveland) and Yankee Stadium (Bronx, N.Y.) are known for looking out onto a skyline (in Yankee Stadium's case, it's dominated by the Bronx County Courthouse), but I liked the view from Sec Taylor Stadium (Des Moines, Iowa), which includes the Hawkeye State's capitol dome.
Over the left field wall is the modest Cedar Rapids skyline (just three or four moderately tall buildings, but then again, this is Iowa), while right across the street beyond right field is a grain elevator.

And while there are many nice things about Principal Park, it's not the nicest stadium in the minors, nor it even the nicest stadium in Iowa -- I'd much prefer attending a game at John O'Donnell Stadium.
True, this is Iowa we're talking about here, and with a view of the state capitol in right field (as show to the left) and a view of downtown Des Moines in right field, Principal Park is certainly well-situated in its surroundings.
For many years the team was known as the Iowa Oaks, which is a heckuva lot more distinctive than the Iowa Cubs.
