Topic: John Ondrasik

Music | PE.com | Southern California News | News for Inland Southern California
John Ondrasik grew up on '70s-singer/songwriters like James Taylor, Jim Croce and Billy Joel, but even though he's a solo artist he records and performs his music under the moniker Five For Fighting.
John Ondrasik was a struggling solo artist in LA when he changed his act's name to Five For Fighting.
The name stuck and Ondrasik and Five For Fighting finally found success in 2001 with a single off his second album, "America Town," called "Superman (It's Not Easy)." The song's message of finding inspiration in everyday people was an anthem many took solace in during the aftermath of Sept. 11.

After Ondrasik found out that Keys planned to create a group home, he contacted Anderson to inform her that it was his belief that the Plaza lot was impressed with an implied easement belonging to all the owners in the neighborhood to use the lot for recreational purposes.
Ondrasik had made no objection to Anderson about her plan to sell the property (indeed, he offered to purchase the property himself for a price that Anderson rejected as too low) until he found out that Anderson was negotiating with a potential buyer who was planning to create a group home for adults with autism.

Five for Fighting: The Battle for Everything - PopMatters Music Review
The Battle for Everything, Ondrasik's third album under the Five for Fighting moniker, finds the singer-pianist-guitarist in another one of his "mature" moods, exploring themes of aging and mortality, love and confusion with the professional sheen of a seasoned singer-songwriter, with all of the pomposity and little of the excitement.
Ondrasik's love of Elton John is clear, as is his appreciation for adult-contemporary heavy hitters like Peter Gabriel and, of course, good ol' Davey Matthews.
Ondrasik deconstructs the aging process by singing to himself at various ages, telling his younger counterpart, "Fifteen, there's still time for you / Time to buy and time to lose / Fifteen, there's never a wish better than this / When you've only got a hundred years … to live".

Math wiz and multi-instrumentalist John Ondrasik's third album under his rather misleading Five For Fighting rubric shows that he's lost little of the cranky ire that he unleashed on American Town, but this time his targets are a little closer to home.
There seems to be two groups of reviewers with regard to FFF, the 5-star gang who love John Ondrasik's musical versatility, opera-trained voice, and whimsical songwriting, and those who disparage the album for 'only having one good song' or Ondrasik for having too high a voice or writing lyrics that don't always make sense.

Ondrasik, who opens for the Goo Goo Dolls at the Jubilee on Tuesday, isn't necessarily concerned with sales numbers and hit singles, though -- he's just glad to finally get a chance to be heard.
