John Panozzo's health was getting worse, and there was no guarantee he would be able to perform at the top of his game every night for a 50-city tour.
John was one of those guys who could say the same thing over and over again, and you would laugh for some unknown reason.
John had used many of the instruments throughout his career with Styx, as well as when he was a band teacher in the Chicago school system.

John Anthony Panozzo (September 20, 1947 - July 16, 1996) was the drummer for the American rock band Styx.
Panozzo grew up in the Pullman district, the south side of Chicago, Illinois with his twin brother, Chuck (born 90 minutes apart).
In the mid-1990s, as Styx was about to embark on its first tour with the classic line-up since 1983, John fell seriously ill and began battling cirrhosis of the liver, eventually dying of gastrointestinal hemmorhaging.
