Percy Jones: My mother gave me some very basic piano lessons when I was 9 or 10 years old but at that point I wasn't much interested in music.
Percy: The initial formation of Brand X is a rather long and complicated story but John Goodsall and Robin Lumley were already involved at the point where I joined up.
Percy: Two reasons really, my wife is a native New Yorker and at the time I was playing more over here than I was in the UK, so it simply made sense to live here.

It was John Marshall, Karl Jenkins, John Etheridge, and a violin player - Rick Saunders, who was quite young at the time; I remember his Mom brought him to the airport.
Tom Jones used to do these TV shows back in the 70's, with a big band, and Big Jim was the guitar player, he'd stand up and take a solo on every TV show.

 Characters by John Abercrombie CD
I've purchased most of John's olo works, and many many performances on other peoples recordings but this is my "desert Island disc" as far as Abercrombie's career is concerned.
Without using any guitar synthesizers (this was before John's involvment with them), Abercrombie makes a spacey, ethereal pice using the volume swell of his electric guitar aided by some nice background finger picking on acoustic guitar.
I will continue to listen to all the music John will give to us in the future, and continue to hope that another all-solo effort is in the cards, but I don't know if this one can ever be topped...

John Goodsall, Percy Jones, and the gang whirl you around by your heels until your brain pops.
Jones’ signature jazzy-phat, swelling, be-boppin’, hip-hopped, and burpin’ funk-rock bass is framed with that serrated-edged and pyrotechnic splendor in Goodsall’s mean fusion guitar.

From his fat liquid sound, his rollercoaster of sliding notes, harmonics, ‘pops’, muted percussive sounds and his ability to dance at the very edge of dissonance, his unconventional interpretations of what a bass line could be all add up to a style you will see with no other.
Michael certainly deserves all the praise he has received, but in many ways Percy was doing it all, just as well, and a long time ago, with Brand X. X was the perfect 1970’s and `80 venture into Jazz/Rock fusion.

Jones was Wales' first world champion, a fast and powerful flyweight who earned his title in one of the toughest eras of the sport's history.
After one successful defence he was knocked out in a non-title bout by Joe Symonds, and in his next fight he lost the belt to Tancy Lee.
Jones moved up to bantamweight, but was gassed during the Great War when serving as a sergeant.

Percy Jones does not appear on this one.
The cut is also called "Wal to Wal" because it features both Percy Jones and John Giblin on bass, dueling basses, more or less, and the fact both were playing the Wal bass guitar (which assume is fretless, as it does sound fretless to my ears).
To me, any four of Brand X's previous albums or even Marscape by Jack Lancaster and Robin Lumley (which might as well be another Brand X album since John Goodsall, Percy Jones, and Phil Collins were all on that album as well) are better than Product, in my opinion.
