Now "John Perry" is not likely to be a wildly uncommon name, and I was procrastinating the other day, so I dropped the name in Google to see what might pop up.
And lo and behold, there's a fairly notable John Perry out there: He's a professor of philosophy and former chair of the philosophy department of Stanford University, and co-hosts a radio show about the subject with the current chair of Stanford philosophy, which also naturally has an associated blog.
John Perry also was the sailor guy in those old Old Spice commercials.

He is a politician, so expectations must be calibrated in that context, but I think that he will be at least a good president (I expect to disagree with him on many matters, but fewer than most other oval office occupants) with the potential for great.

Michael Corcoran, who was born near Ballymote, worked for the revenue police in Ireland before emigrating to America in 1849 where he became a general and established the Corcoran Legion, four regiments of Irish-born soldiers who fought on the side of the Union.
He died in battle in 1863 and John Perry would like to see Corcoran commemorated in his native county by the erection of a life-sized bronze.
