John Piper (theologian) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John Stephen Piper (born 1946) is a reformed Baptist minister and author, currently serving as senior pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, MN.
Piper's reaction to his diagnosis was characteristically humble: "This news has, of course, been good for me. The most dangerous thing in the world is the sin of self-reliance and the stupor of worldliness.
John Piper's motto in ministry, preaching and teaching is derived from his hero, Jonathan Edwards: "God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him." He calls those who live out this motto, Christian Hedonists.

Piper pointed out that when the Bible says in Psalm 96:3, "Declare his glory among the nations," it is God who inspired the words of the writer and thus God who is speaking.
Piper pointed to biblical evidence in the life, ministry and death of Jesus that the love of God is not His making much of His children, but rather of enabling them to enjoy making much of God forever.
Piper asserted that within John 11:1-6, love prompted Jesus to let Lazarus die because it is more loving to display the glory of God than it is to rescue people from death on earth.

Passion for Piper? Desiring God and 'Christian Hedonism'
John Piper is the Senior Pastor at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis.
Piper believes that grace was operative in the 'Covenant of works' from the beginning, in other words that even in his unfallen state Adam related to God by grace not through meritorious works.
Moreover, given the relatively minor theological debate (in the grand scheme of theological battles!) to move from criticism of Piper's view of grace to a charge of unorthodoxy is not reflective of the scholarly style in which the booklet is couched.

Book Review: God's Passion for His Glory
Piper, also a theologian and Bible scholar (neither of which should be unusual for a pastor), writes four chapters to introduce Jonathan Edwards' magnificent essay, "The End for Which God Created the World," for which he also contributes many helpful footnotes.
Piper recounts the transforming impact Edwards' Biblical vision-that God created the world for the manifestation of His glory in the highest happiness of His creatures (which is one purpose, not two)-has had upon his own life and ministry.
Piper also includes a brief biography of Edwards and gives plenty of reasons to read this challenging essay by the greatest mind to appear on the American scene.

Jesus Creed » The Gospel acc. to John (Piper)
Piper’s take or angle on presenting the gospel is to look at its doxological focus or its aim for a human to become enthralled with the glory of God as what gives humans their greatest joy.
Piper’s focus is on “union with God” and there is nothing that animates my own view of the gospel more than the perichoretic life of God that pulses within the godhead and, to recall Jonathan Edwards myself, which gave God the impetus to spread that love into Creation.

This has been the historic Protestant understanding of the "imputation of Christ's righteousness," but John Piper warns that we are in danger of losing this doctrine today, because of attacks by scholars within the evangelical camp.
In response, Piper shows, in careful treatment of passage after passage, that the imputation of Christ's righteousness to believers is clearly the teaching of the Bible, and if we abandon this doctrine we will also lose justification by faith alone.

In view of John’s theology, along with the grammar and context, the highest semantical possibility for theos is qualitative.
Example in John 1:18 God theos (Jesus) is the subject and theon (the Father) is the object of the clause.
