Camp John Pond | Sullivan Ohio
Pond and lake bed aeration adds oxygen to all of the water, not only surface water, but to the water at the bottom as well.
Once the lake or pond is full of oxygen near the bottom, new insect larvae, snails, and other fish food can begin to live on the bottom.
By pumping compressed air out into the pond or lake bed aerator (from the electric aerator or windmill through an air line attached to an aeration stone), the rising air bubbles from the air stone bring bottom water to the surface where it is exposed to the atmosphere.

Pond was a founder member of the Astronomical Society in 1820 (later to become the Royal Astronomical Society).
Pond was the first Astronomer Royal to retire from his office, rather than to die in harness, and his 24 year tenure is sometimes thought to be the least successful of the Astronomers Royal as Directors of the Royal Observatory.
John Pond was nevertheless a peerless practical observing astronomer who introduced new instruments, observational and reductional methods to the Observatory; in many ways he laid the foundations for the work of his successor, G. Airy.

In a garden pond, the quantity of ammonia produced each day by a few fish and by bacterial decomposition of organic matter is quite small compared to the volume of water.
If Maryann keeps her pond fairly clean of rotting organic material, ammonia from other sources will be insignificant and the nitrifying bacteria in the pond will be able to handle the daily ammonia levels without any problem.
Pond filters that are built directly into a pond are a continual source of operating difficulties and endless maintenance problems.

There are 4 kinds of "ponds" in MO. The term pond and lake seem to be often interchangable...I think it is mostly size that determines which it is called but then again sometimes it seems to be just the mood as well.
There are run off ponds, made by enclosing part of a holl'er and letting rain water fill it.
The other three holl'er ponds are small but pretty ponds nestled in the wildlife filled "valley" allowing critters and birds of all kinds to enjoy them along with the cattle.

In June 1835 Airy was appointed Astronomer Royal in succession to John Pond, and began his long career at the national observatory which constitutes his chief title to fame.
The condition of the observatory at the time of his appointment was such that Lord Auckland, the first lord of the Admiralty, considered that "it ought to be cleared out," while Airy admitted that "it was in a queer state." With his usual energy he set to work at once to reorganize the whole management.
Shortly afterwards he undertook the further laborious task of reducing the enormous mass of observations of the moon made at Greenwich during the same period under the direction, successively, of James Bradley, Nathaniel Bliss, Nevil Maskelyne and John Pond, to defray the expense of which a large sum of money was allotted by the Treasury.

 Introduction to Philosophy
The child in need in the case of the Shallow Pond is an emergency; whereas the situation of the children in the case of The Envelope is not.
If John saved the child from drowning, his aid would have been causally focused on that particular needy child; whereas in the case of The Envelope, even if I'd behaved helpfully and mailed in my check, there'd never be anyone for whom I'd have made the difference between suffering a serious loss and suffering none.
John should save the child from drowning, but it's not wrong for me not to contribute to UNICEF because we should look after those near to us, our families, and then to the children who are in need in our own country, before we think about poor and dying children in other far-off places.
