John P. O'Neill (1952 – September 11, 2001) was an FBI agent who investigated terrorism and Al Qaeda in the late 1990s.
Another John O'Neill is the head of the Australian Soccer Association.

When Thompson retired in 1939, longtime Oz illustrator, John R. Neill took over the series and wrote three more of the "Famous Forty".
Written in 1943, to be the 37th Oz book, Neill died before he could illustrate the book, so publisher Reilly and Lee decided not to publish it due to shortages during World War II.
The manuscript stayed with Neill's family until it was finally published with in in 1995.

In 1904, while on the staff of the North American, Neill began the working relationship with Baum that ultimately led to his collaboration on the Oz series.
Between 1904 when Neill illustrated the second Oz book (The Marvelous Land of Oz) and his death in 1943, he served as Baum's illustrator for the Oz books and for Baum's other fantasy titles.
Neill even authored three Oz books, one of which resides in deGrummon's closed stacks (The Scalawagons of Oz).
