John Robertson (born 20 January 1953 in Uddingston) is a former Scottish footballer.
Robertson had played for Scotland at Schoolboy and Youth levels and for Drumchapel Amateurs before joining Forest in May 1970, making his debut for the team in October 1970.
Robertson was sold to Derby County F.C. in June 1983 on a contested transfer (the fee was set by a tribunal), but was injured soon after joining the team and failed to reproduce the form he had shown when he played for Forest.

The Lithuanian was outstanding on his first start for the Jambos in their impressive 2-0 triumph over the Glasgow giants at Parkhead on Saturday but was forced to limp out of the match 18 minutes from time after suffering a foot injury.
While acknowledging they were similar types of players, Robertson insisted today that the least the arrival from Kaunas can expect is a place on the bench as the Gorgie outfit goes for back-to-back wins over the Glasgow giants.

His fitness level was also outstanding and he was able to play on until the age of 40 and to establish a unique record of winning the League Championship with three different clubs: Heart of Midlothian, Hibernian and Dundee.
Gordon signed for Hearts in August 1959 at the age of 35 and those who doubted his effectiveness were soon proved wrong, as he gave the club two great years and assisted Hearts to win the League Cup Final in October 1959 and the Championship later that season.
After scoring 17 goals in 77 games, he was released by Hearts in May 1961, but astonishingly, Gordon went on to play for Dundee where he helped the Dens Park club to win the League title in 1962.

This week, Jim Duffy, a stalwart of Scottish football, who was sacked at the start of this season as manager of First Division club Dundee, was appointed as the new Hearts "director of football" to control development and identify possible signings.
Robertson, who began his coaching career at Livingston with four successful years as player and coach under Davie Hay, left Ross County last October in protest at the cuts he had been asked to make in the playing budget of the First Division club.

last November was a complete disgrace, too, but it was a question of well-paid professional footballers (in the Hearts side, just to make that plain) making basic errors against a very useful side (who are unlikely to be as useful ever again).
   To call John Robertson a Hearts legend is missing the point.
   No-one doubts his qualities as a footballer – he won a European Cup (and no stain should attach itself to Franck simply because Bernard Tapie bought Marseille’s victory with bribes and inducements) and his leadership on the park which brought the best out of much-inferior players alongside him was unsurprising.
