John Paul Jones is the stage name of John Baldwin (born January 3, 1946), the bassist and keyboard player for Led Zeppelin until the band's breakup after the death of John Bonham in 1980.
The name John Paul Jones was suggested to him by a friend, Andrew Loog Oldham, after seeing a movie poster with that name on it in France.
John Paul Jones' first solo recording was a single for Pye Records in April 1964 which featured "A Foggy Day in Vietnam".

Indeed, John's songwriting talents soon became a big asset to the group as he featured as co-writer on many of their hits.
John was part of the re-formed Shadows line up that toured the UK and Japan in 1969.
John was, however, an exceptionally fine musician and his tremendous contribution as guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for the Shadows should not be underestimated.

As bassist John Rostill left with Hawkshaw in '71, Welch returned along with bassist/guitarist John Farrar.
Rostill would join Tom Jones' touring band and write a few tunes for Engelbert Humperdinck until he was fatally electrocuted by his guitar in '73.

The Marvin, Welch, Bennett and Rostill line-up continued for a number of years, until the group decided to break up and reform as a vocal harmony outfit known as MARVIN, WELCH & FARRAR; the Farrar being talented Australian guitarist and vocalist John Farrar, well known as writer and producer for Olivia Newton-John.
Tragically John Rostill had died during 1973 following a mishap in his home recording studio, and from that time the position of Shadows bass player has been filled by various session musicians, including Dave Richmond, Alan Tarney, George Ford, Alan Jones, Paul Westwood and Mark Griffiths.
Around 1973 keyboards were added to further enhance The Shadows sound, especially as the orchestral accompaniment provided in their recordings by the Norrie Paramor Orchestra was needed to be synthesised for on stage performances.

"From Hank, Bruce, Brian, and John" was the last Shadows album of the 60's--the last before their disappearance (and foray into close harmony work as Marvin, Welch & Farrar) and consequent resurgence that lasted until 1990.
After a couple of stable years with John Farrar (not John Rostill who plays bass on this recording)in the 70's, the group never again was a stable foursome, and their sound wandered.
This recording is a good mix of mellow and upbeat numbers with even some tolerable vocals thrown in.

My first experience of Charlie Cairoli, live, was not at Blackpool Tower Circus, but in pantomime at the London Palladium, some time in the 1960s.
The subject was Aladdin, and the title roll was played by Cliff Richard, naturally The Shadows (Hank Marvin, Brian Bennett and the late John Rostill) were involved as Wishee, Washee, Noshee and Poshee, and they also composed the musical score.
Charlie Cairoli took the part of the Chief Inspector Bathrobe, with his company comprising as a section of the Peking Police Force, along with Johnny Hutch and The Volant's.
