Sack's 10,000-word article was fact-checked, libel-checked and scheduled for the February 1993 issue, but two days before it was to be sent to the printer, Sack received a call from GQ editor Art Cooper saying that it would be pulled.
Sack wrote in An Eye for and Eye that the director of the Office in Warsaw and almost all of the department heads were Jews.

John Sack, a war correspondent for Esquire and other magazines and a man who was one of the leading lights of the 1960s' "New Journalism" movement, died Saturday in San Francisco of complications from bone marrow cancer.
Sack risked being prosecuted by federal authorities when he refused to surrender his notes or his interview tapes and, according to the "Dictionary of Literary Biography," "was arrested and indicted on federal felony charges for refusing to testify and refusing to deliver evidence." In the end, charges were dropped.
Sack was known, both within his small band of war reporting peers and to a larger public of readers, as somebody who was utterly devoted to the truth, despite the sticky problems that might cause.

John Sack is probably best known to the general public as one of the pioneers of what is called "literary journalism," a genre he helped inaugurate in the 1950's.
Sack was led to this genre during the Korean War, when the cognitive dissonance of what he was seeing and what he was being officially told made it impossible for him to continue to simply repeat the official version being fed to him.

Sack is quite vivid in his description of those who claim the holocaust did not occur as it has been handed down to us.
I was extremely uncomfortable with Sack's article after a first reading, but then, when I reflected upon it overnight, the import of that scurrilous attack struck me with all the force of a ton of bricks, which prompted me to send that little essay to you this afternoon.
Thus, whatever scraps or concessions Sack offered revisionism in this lengthy article, pale in contrast to the fact that, viewed in its entirety, Sack's article ultimately portrays revisionists as people, harmless in and of themselves, who serve as apologists for those whose task and pleasure was to exterminate children.
