John Septimus Roe completed sketches and watercolours accompanying the written account in his logbook on HMS Dick on her voyage from England to Sydney in 1817.
The logbook with its vibrant, minutely detailed illustrations of sailing vessels, settlements, scenery and coastlines of countries in South America passed en route to Australia clearly indicate Roe was an accomplished artist.
Roe was born in 1797 and entered the Royal Navy in 1813 as a midshipman.

This hand-coloured 1839 map, mounted on linen, was drawn by John Arrowsmith from the surveys of John Septimus Roe, then Surveyor-General of Western Australia.
It shows the divisions of the south-west of Western Australia into counties, and surveys of the coastal settlements, routes of explorers, and details vegetation, soil and fauna.
John Septimus Roe became Surveyor-General of the colony in 1829 and remained in that position for 42 years.

The "Arrowsmith map": an 1839 map of the land grants in the Swan River Colony, drawn by John Arrowsmith from the survey data of John Septimus Roe.
The vast amounts of land promised to settlers was so far out of proportion to the available good land that Stirling was obliged to limit the amount of river frontage per grant, forcing the Surveyor-General John Septimus Roe to grant long thin "ribbon" allotments each with a small amount of river frontage.
Stirling also limited the amount of land that each settler could claim near Perth, with the balance of their entitlements to be claimed further out, in areas yet to be declared available for selection.

John Septimus Roe (1797-1878), mentioned in the title, was Surveyor-General for the British Colony of Western Australia for 42 years, after having served in the Navy surveying northwestern Australia and in the Burmese War.
His years as Surveyor-General were very active, as he explored the coasts and made journeys into the interior (one is indicated on the map).

In 1831, Surgeon Alexander Collie recorded the Aboriginal name of the range, Koi Kyeunu-ruff, which was provided to him by his Aboriginal guide Mokare.

 Kings Park Perth : Review from the Lost Luggage Tales
It has been a source of pleasure to Perth residents since it was set aside as parkland in 1831 by the colony's first Surveyor General, John Septimus Roe.
It was named Perth Park in 1872 and subsequently renamed Kings Park in 1901 to honour Edward VII's accession to the throne.
There are memorials to both John Septimus Roe and John Forrest in the park as well as a huge karri log and a Pioneer Women's Memorial.

And John Septimus Roe, simple idea and did a bloody good job of it, but most of us didn't think they deserved 1st place.
If the performers do, the only people they must of asked is the people from Como because I and most other schools would not say Como.
What I think was great about JSR was they didn't loose story/characterisation, etc. with their dancing and it was REALLY easy to understand!
