John Knight Shields (August 15, 1858 – September 30, 1934) was a Democratic United States Senator from Tennessee from 1913 to 1925.
Shields was born at his family's estate "Clinchdale", near the early pioneer settlement of Bean's Station, Tennessee in Grainger County.
Shields was popularly reelected in 1918 but in 1924 lost the Democratic nomination to Lawrence D. Tyson, and returned to the private practice of law, this time in Knoxville.

The date of Shields’ death is given alternatively as 1809 with his burial in Little Flock Burying Grounds near Corydon, IN, or 1815 with his burial either in Sevier County, TN or Indiana.
Although he is routinely praised in the journals, Shields did refuse to take orders from the sergeants when encamped in Missouri (March 1804), stating that he only took orders from the Captains.
John Shields is said to have been a flsmith in Pigeon Forge, TN prior to joining the expedition and family members remained there.
