Australian director John Stainton's main claim to fame is the successful docu/comedy The Crocodile Hunter, but he did pass his time in the shadows of the film industry.
A sort of Jack-of-all-trades, Stainton started his career working on a variety of genres creating documentaries, variety programs, comedy series, specials, chat shows and commercials, displaying his versatile talent.
Five years later, while on a shoot for a local brand of beer at the Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park where his friend, Steve Irwin worked, he was struck by the on-screen potential of the wildlife park owner.

SPLICEDwire | "The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course" review (2002) John Stainton, Steve Irwin
But no matter how firmly director John Stainton has his tongue in his cheek, the fact remains that a wacky concept does not a movie make.
Split into two distinct narratives, Irwin spends his half of the film doing exactly what he does on TV -- catching critters, talking to the camera incessantly and with unbridled hyperactive enthusiasm, and saying "Crikey!" a lot.
But you'd have to be a hardcore fan of "The Crocodile Hunter" to not be bored and insulted by most of this movie, which on the whole is a script-less, aimless, badly-acted, slapped-together attempt to cash in on Irwin's 15 minutes of fame.

The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course Review Movie Review Film The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course: Steve Irwin, ...
Director John Stainton (the force behind Irwin's bemusing television antics) supports his off-kilter croc-hunting star with interesting critters to keep the masses mildly entertained.
Instead, Stainton throws in some pointless plot about American CIA agents and a spy satellite swallowed by a mischievous crocodile that's being tracked by the determined Irwin.
Unfortunately, the only thing that collaborators Stainton and Irwin couldn't wrangle besides a moody reptile is a drippy screenplay that notoriously sprung from the loosely inept fingertips of writer Holly Goldberg Sloan.
