		Stoltenberg, who, free from ostentation and display, is nevertheless by the consensus of public opinion accorded prominence in financial circles of Iowa and has come to be recognized as one of the leading representatives of banking interests in this state, was born in Blue Grass township, this county, on the 14th of September, 1863.
		Stoltenberg has devoted considerable time to the improvement of this farm, erecting good modern buildings and equipping the place with all of the accessories and conveniences known to facilitating farm labor, so that today it is one of the most highly improved and valuable farms of the township.
		John Stoltenberg, chief of the fire department of Davenport and a man of unusual strength of character and purposeful methods, was born here, January 7, 1863, a son of Henry and Mary (Jehring) Stoltenberg, both natives of Germany.

		Stoltenberg is a "radical profeminist" whose book comes with words of praise from Gloria Steinem, Naomi Wolf and the editor-in-chief of Ms.
		The sorrow and the pity is that, in preaching to the converted, Stoltenberg carefully defines the "enemy," ascribes hateful qualities to him, and, by turns, moves to the eventual conclusion that ANYONE who disagrees with him is the stereotype he's generated.
		But, like Stoltenberg, he reserves his humor as a weapon to be used against his enemies, the evil "liberals." To classify either gentleman's humor as "satire" would do a disservice to the word.

		Stoltenberg was married on March 2, 1905 to Helen Spencer (1879-1932), a native of Milwaukee.
