John Sutton, 1st Baron Dudley (December 25, 1400 – September 30, 1487), was Lord Lieutenant of Ireland 1428-30; MP 1440-87.
He fought in several campaigns throughout the period of the wars with France and was a resolute defender of the House of Lancaster early on in the Wars of the Roses, but changed his aliegance for political safety along with many others later on.
Found amongst the Lancastrian army at the first Battle of St Albans on 22 May 1455 were John Sutton of Dudley, Worcestershire and his son Edmund Sutton of Dudley, Worcestershire.

Sutton was appointed to a lecturership in 1948, a Readership in 1956 and in 1958 to a Chair in Geology.
Sutton was President of the Geologists' Association 1966-1968 and also served as a Trustee of the British Museum (Natural History) 1976-1981 and as a member of the Natural Environment Research Council 1977-1979.

Lord Dudley fought at the battle of St. Albans, May 23, 1455, where the King was defeated by the Duke of York and taken prisoner.
